Nigel Feetham
Nigel has set up innovative structures for insurance operations and advised the Government of Gibraltar on ways of implementing specific insurance related legislation (e.g. protected cell company laws).
He is considered a market leader in Gibraltar on 'insurance passporting' and the structuring of insurance companies. According to Chambers' Global (2005/06), 'Observers believe that he 'has probably brought the majority of insurance companies to Gibraltar''. He is also widely recognised as an expert in the field of Protected Cell Companies, and a driving force behind the growth of the insurance market in Gibraltar, according to Chambers Global 2008/9.
Other growth financial services sectors in Nigel's area include repackaging and structured finance, where Gibraltar's position within Europe makes it attractive for those who need to buy commercial paper from EU countries. He has advised international banks, and is 'considered by peers to have made a name for himself in securities', according to Chambers' Global (2002/03). Nigel therefore has wide experience in structured finance transactions, including tax driven work.
In 2005 he was also a member of the Government of Gibraltar Working Group on the modernization of the Gibraltar funds legislation.
He graduated with a First Class Honours degree from Manchester University, and was awarded a Masters degree in law with Distinction at Manchester Victoria University. He was called to the Bar in 1993, and became a partner of Hassans in 1999.
His publications include "Protected cell companies: a guide to implementation and use". http://www.spiramus.com/protected_cell_companies.htm
